A fresh controversy has erupted during Haj 2026 after a new government circular reportedly imposed an additional ₹10,000 charge on every pilgrim. In a statement shared on social media, Maulana Yasoob Abbas and members of the Ittehad-e-Millat Council strongly criticized the move, calling it unfair and insensitive.

The council stated that many pilgrims spend years saving money for Haj, and imposing such a financial burden at the last moment is like an “unexpected shock.” They have urged Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to immediately withdraw the circular or at least ensure that such decisions are communicated at least six months in advance so that pilgrims can prepare mentally and financially.
