Mahim Social Worker Anjali Billimoria Appeals to Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis for More Traffic Police Personnel in Mahim traffic division 

Mumbai: Mahim social worker Anjali Billimoria has appealed to Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis to increase traffic police manpower in the Mahim Traffic Police Division, citing a rise in wrong-side driving and traffic violations in several parts of Mahim West.

Billimoria said that wrong-side driving has increased on roads including Cadell Road and MMC Road, creating serious risks for pedestrians, motorists and other road users. She urged the authorities to deploy additional traffic police personnel in the area to improve road safety and ensure better enforcement of traffic rules.

According to Billimoria, increased traffic police presence could help prevent accidents by deterring dangerous and reckless driving. It could also enable stricter action against traffic violations such as signal jumping, wrong-side driving, speeding and other offences.

She further said that additional traffic police should be deployed near schools and hospitals to improve the safety of children, patients, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users. A stronger traffic police presence could also help ensure faster clearance of routes for ambulances, fire engines and other emergency vehicles.

Billimoria also raised concerns over parking violations on roads where odd-even parking regulations have been implemented. She cited MMC Cross No. 2 near Pikle Hospital as an example, alleging that vehicles are often parked on both sides of the road despite parking restrictions, causing inconvenience and affecting traffic movement.

She urged the government to consider increasing recruitment and deployment of traffic police personnel for the Mahim Traffic Police Division. She also suggested creating a dedicated traffic volunteer or civic marshal system under proper police supervision to assist with traffic management and public awareness.

Billimoria proposed that regular manpower audits be conducted to identify the busiest junctions and accident-prone locations, with traffic police personnel redistributed according to traffic volume and public safety requirements.

She specifically appealed for the deployment of traffic police near the traffic signal outside Raheja Hospital, stating that motorists and bikers allegedly frequently jump the signal and drive recklessly in the area.

"More traffic police personnel in Mahim can improve traffic flow, strengthen enforcement of traffic rules, enhance road safety and ensure quicker emergency response," Billimoria said, urging the Maharashtra Government and traffic authorities to take immediate steps to address the issue.
