Five Dead and Several Injured in Thane Train Accident. Tragedy Between Diva and Mumbra Stations
A major train accident occurred on Monday morning, June 9, 2025, between Diva and Mumbra stations on Mumbai's suburban rail network, claiming the lives of at least five passengers and injuring several others.
According to initial reports, the incident took place when two fast local trains traveling in opposite directions were overcrowded beyond safe capacity. Many passengers were reportedly hanging out of the coaches due to lack of space inside. As the trains crossed paths, passengers who were hanging on the edges collided, leading to a sudden fall from the moving trains.
Eyewitnesses stated that the scene was extremely distressing, with passengers falling off at high speed. Emergency services rushed to the spot, and rescue operations were promptly carried out. At least five people died on the spot, while around five to seven passengers were seriously injured and have been shifted to nearby hospitals.
Authorities are investigating the cause and considering crowd control and safety enhancements on these heavily used train routes. This tragic incident once again highlights the urgent need to upgrade infrastructure, add more trains, and adopt strict safety measures to protect daily commuters.
