X Sues Indian Government Over Content Blocking in Karnataka High Court
Elon Musk's social platform X has filed a petition against the Indian government in the Karnataka High Court. It claims that government officials are blocking content on X, which is a misuse of Section 79(3)(B) of the IT Act.
According to media reports, the petition states that this method of censorship is completely illegal and violates the right to freedom of expression. However, there is no information on when the petition was filed.
The social media company argues that if content is removed so easily, it will lose users' trust, which will affect its business.
Government removing content through ‘Sahyog’ portal X Corp has alleged that the government blocks content through a portal called ‘Sahyog.’ The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre operates this portal. Based on the orders of the Home Ministry, the police and government departments direct content removal.
X claims that government officials in India are bypassing proper legal procedures and creating an illegal system to block online content. X also stated that the Sahyog portal is functioning like a 'censorship portal' and cannot be considered a legally justified action.
