In a major diplomatic development, India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire. The first announcement came from US President Donald Trump through a social media post. Shortly after, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that both countries' Director Generals of Military Operations reached an agreement to halt military action.
However, reports indicate that Pakistan has already violated the ceasefire agreement. Indian forces are responding firmly, with strict surveillance at the border. Foreign Secretary Misri confirmed that India has issued a strong warning to Pakistan to act responsibly and maintain peace.
The ceasefire announcement triggered mixed reactions on social media. Some users expressed dissatisfaction, while former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi unexpectedly began trending on platform X.
Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah stated that the situation does not resemble a true ceasefire, revealing that air defence units in Srinagar have been activated. Political leader Supriya Shrinate also expressed skepticism, calling Pakistan a rogue state and emphasizing that they cannot be trusted due to repeated ceasefire violations. She mentioned blackouts being enforced in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Punjab.
Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi welcomed the ceasefire, highlighting the heavy toll war takes on innocent civilians. However, he insisted that India must secure firm assurances from Pakistan against terrorism.
In related developments, the gates of the Salal Dam in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district were opened early morning at 6:30 AM, releasing water into the Chenab River with strong currents visible in shared videos.
